The basic components of a Hybrid Assist system – such as Mecc Alte’s Hybrid ONE solution - are virtually identical to a traditional hybrid system. A variable speed engine to provide power, a battery to store energy, a Permanent Magnet DC Alternator to provide electrical energy to both the load and the battery, and an intelligent control system that’s capable of controlling both the engine and the hybrid system.
The way in which these components work together is the key difference compared to traditional hybrids. The engine is expected to run for much longer periods to both supply the load and recharge the battery. In some cases, the engine may even be running constantly. So, while the battery may be used as a power source for short periods, it is more often used to boost energy available to the load during peak demand.
